The building, which today houses the Art Fabrik Hotel, was once a factory which belonged to the family of Friedrich Engels. It is said that Friedrich Engels supported Karl Marx financially with money which was made from the factory so that Marx could finish working on the famous communist manifest.
A few years ago Roswitha and Erich Bethe put an unusual concept into practice – one that would see the former factory transformed into an art hotel whose income could support 6 childrens’ hospices as well as the Bethe Foundation and provide a platform for local artiest.
